William Crowe, the Spencer Librarian, and Sheryl Williams, Curator of the Kansas Collection, along with others from the library staff will meet us in the Johnson Room at the library. They will give us a broad picture of the Kansas Collection, citing some of the unusual and outstanding books, photographs, and other documentary records it contains about a wide variety of subjects. They will also demonstrate how to use the Internet to obtain information about the library and its collections and services.
Following the general meeting, the library will host a short refreshment break in the Grand North Gallery, overlooking the Campanile. Afterwards, we will be divided into groups so that we can have an opportunity to explore and learn more about some of the strengths of the Kansas Collection, especially holdings related to the history or Douglas County and Lawrence, with a particular emphasis on family history. We will also see materials related to WWII.
William assures us that our visit will be entirely different than the tour that some of our members attended several years ago. So dress for comfort and come prepared for an interesting experience centered on a very important part of our fine Spencer Research Library.
