Serologicals: A Day of Bioscience
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)
Wed., Feb. 16, 2005, 9:45am
Location: Serologicals, 3780 Greenway Circle, East Hills Business Park
Our biosciences morning will begin with Mike Litsher, plant manager of the new 44,000 square foot Serologicals plant, giving us an overview of the plant. He will explain the use of Ex-Cyte, the company's cornerstone product which "rings up" $30 million for Serologicals. Called the "Flagship Facility" by the Atlanta-based company, Mike will also tell us what the plant means for Lawrence. Then, we will tour the plant where other employees can explain the intricacies of creating Ex-Cyte.
Following the tour, we will hear about the Economic Growth Act passed by the Kansas Legislature during the 2004 session last spring. It's passage created the Bioscience Authority to which Dolph Simons was recently appointed. Our scheduled presenter is representative Kenny Wilk who co-sponsored the bill that that really started the "Bioscience ball rolling". He will explain how the Economic Growth Act is expected to generate more than $500 million in the next ten years.
In addition, Ted Haggart, Co-Chairman of Lawrence Chamber of Commerce's Bioscience Task Force will speak to us about the plans for Biosciences industry development in Douglas County.
