The Spencer Museum of Art
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Thu., Nov. 18, 2010, 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Location: Spencer Museum of Art

The Spencer Museum of Art building was completed in 1978 with funds from Helen Foresman Spencer. She had previously built the Kenneth Spencer Research Library behind Strong Hall and wanted to build a companion building for the Arts. When completed, it had a number of flexible walls to accommodate the collection, as well as other features, such as a Reception Room which she used as her office while she was alive, a kitchen for use of staff and receptions in the Museum, offices and classrooms. Very little has been done to the interior in the years since it was built even though the collection has grown considerably, as well as the staff and Art History Department. Saralyn Reece Hardy, Director of the Museum, is going to give us a tour of the exciting renovations to the interior, designed to bring the Museum into the 21st century and tell us about the vision for the future of the Museum. Don't miss this opportunity to see and hear about how the Museum is meeting its mission to KU and the world.
