Tue., Apr. 23, 2002, 8:00am
Location: Meet at the Lied Center
Launch your Odyssey with a journey to Hutchinson, Quivira, Lindsborg and Abilene. Visit the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, where the world?s fastest spyplane, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, awaits your arrival. We will be treated to the Hall of Space Museum, Planetarium/Laser show and IMax show. Continue the journey at Prairie Dunes Country Club, site of the Women?s Open Championship in July. Following happy hour and a short description of the Dunes, we will be treated to a wonderful evening dinner. A tour of the restored Fox Theater rounds out a full day in Hutchinson.

Our second day will begin after a restful night at the Holiday Inn Express and a good morning breakfast. After a short drive to Quivira refuge, the Friends of Quivira will give us a cultural, educational, and economic orientation to the area. We will take a birding tour of the refuge by bus. (The director recommends a bus tour since the birds are more comfortable with buses than individuals walking the long-distance tour.)

The afternoon holds a visit to Lindsborg, the Swedish capital of Kansas. We will enjoy a delightful lunch at the Swedish Crown, followed by a tour of the Sandzen museum, Raymer Studio and the Old Mill. Look forward to a stop at Abilene?s Brookville Hotel for a ?home cooked? chicken dinner before heading home.

Programs may be attended by NGSL members only.
