"Alberto Vargas: The Esquire Pinups" with Steve Goddard, Professor of Art History

Perhaps no image better sums up the contradictory attitudes toward women and in wartime America than the Varga Girl. She appeared on aircraft, submarines and torpedoes, as well as War Bond ads, calendars and in Esquire Magazine in the 40?s and Playboy in the 50?s. Steve Goddard, Curator of Prints and Drawings and Professor of Art History, will guide us through this exhibit, drawn from the archive of original magazine art donated to the University of Kansas by Esquire Magazine in 1977. A reception with Steve will follow the tour.
