In this colloquium, Dava Sobel addresses the idea of Galileo as a working scientist ?how he applied for funding and patents, dealt with plagiarism and publication, collaborated with other scientists and scientific societies, how he managed problems of peer review and technology transfer, as well as the mistakes he made in his theories and the discoveries he missed in his observations.
