New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)
Thu., Feb. 27, 2014, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Location: Spencer Museum of Art, KU
The Spencer Museum has a fine collection of quilts. This exhibit will showcase two such collections – one from a Japanese quilter, Yoshiko Jinzenji and one from a local quilter, Virginia Jean Cox Mitchell. Jinzenji creates objects of beauty from her studios in Japan and Indonesia and has been inspired by Amish and Mennonite quilters. She also has quilts in the collections of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Mrs. Mitchell creates quilts based on historical and personal research. She is also the author of the book Quilt Kansas! She and her husband, retired curator at the Spencer Research Library, are long time Lawrencians. Both quilters have donated significant gifts of their quilts to the Spencer.
