The Word and Sound
Learning Lab is a
research laboratory in
the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing: Sciences
and Disorders
at the University of
Kansas. Founded
in 2001 under the direction
of Dr. Holly L. Storkel, associate professor, the lab
has been
continously funded by the
National Institute on Deafness and Other
Communication
Disorders through
a K23 Career
Development Award (DC04781, 2001-2006),
an R03 Small Grant (DC06545, 2004-2006) and a R01
Research Grant (DC08095, 2006-2011). The
research mission of this
group is to understand how typically developing
children and children
with language impairments
learn the words and sounds of the language by testing
predictions of
existing theories of language acquisition and by
developing evidence-based instructional and clincial
practices. The
laboratory is located in the John T. Stewart
Children's wing of Haworth
Hall (Rooms 4144 and 4153) and the Dole Human
Development Center (Room
3086) on the Lawrence campus of the University of
Kansas.
