Mould made standing female of Dadaelic type with tall polos.
Bilaterally symmetrical with arms close to sides, probably wearing simple
tunic belted at waist. Triangular contour of face, nose articulated with
slight depressions for eyes on either side; some indication of mass of
hair straight across forehead. Stands on squarish base, articulated
primarily at front.
Dimensions:H 8.33 cm.; W across chest 1.85 cm. x Th 1.5 cm.; W

incision.

N.196: TC Tanagra-type Figurine of Eros from ? (3rd c BCE)
Youthful male figure in short tunic pulled diagonally across lower
body leaving genitalia bare and with cloak pulled up around head and
falling behind body on right side but held in position on shoulder by
right hand and pulled over outstretched left hand; bare legs separated in
walking position with trace of sandal strap and sole on right foot. Face
with delicately articulated features with masses of curls framing forehead
under edge of cloak which is tight to head above curls but spreads out to
frame lower part of face. Wings sprout from shoulder with articulating of
feathers in lower half, upper surface smooth, originally coated all over
with white slip; pinkish on tunic.

Youthful male w hair arranged in roll around forehead and
pulled to broad chignon at back of neck; fillet articulated w small
pellets originally came round from back of head to behind roll at forehead
and hair in front and behind fillet over forehead decorated w row of
circular depressions. Mouth & nose articulated, bulging pupils under
slightly raised brow edge. Projecting from left jaw flat surface,
concave below, ?beard.

Terracotta statuette of a woman carrying a hydria (early 4th c. BCE;
H. 23 cm; formerly in a European collection, acquired in the 1950s). She
preserves much of her original paint.

N.31: TC Duck Feeder from Italy (4th-3rd c BCE)
Small vessel in shape of duck with folded wings, attached to squarish
base, at front of left wing projecting semicircular lip where attached
body pierced with 5 strainer holes; attached to projection double
horizontal loop handle with rectangular attachment on top just in front of
strainer projection. Wing and tail feathers articulated with parallel
incisions; eyes incised, two small incisions on either side at back of
bill, and juncture of bill incised leading to aperture extending into body
of vessel. Originally coated all over with reddish paint.

Two fragments of legs of seated figure with drapery folds falling
between legs; traces of red and white paint. Fragment A: bent r leg,
possibly w drapery pulled tight over leg; foot projecting in front of
squarish base. Fragment B: l leg & base as on A, w traces of red and white
paint to r of leg; crude articulation of toes. On outside of leg traces of
drapery over thigh and projection, possibly of seat or throne.

Mould made standing figure wearing small polos over which draped palla
which falls down along shoulders and is probably pulled across front of
body over slightly bent right arm; apparently palla held at left side at
front of body by raised left hand, fingers of which crudely articulated.
Beneath polos hairline articulated and front of face crudely pinched
forward; feet rest on shallow base which is bent up from the back and is
not level, so that the figure cannot stand unsupported

Very crudely made ?warrior w head set against oval background, arms at
sides. 3 diagonal ridges on chest suggesting cuirass, from which hand two
triangular flaps over top of long, very thin legs. Vertical ridge on face
possibly chance product of crude manufacture. Flat base pushed up
irregularly at front while clay still moist. Plain back covered with
finger impressions.

himation which falls in folds over weight-bearing left leg; right knee

Standing boar with front legs diagonal to front rear legs about
vertical with space between legs front and back and under belly solid, the
whole resting on low rectangular base. Well modeled haunches, shoulders,
and crest, with tail curved up over right rear leg. Triangular ears,
bulging brows over lightly incised eyes, nostrils and mouth indicated by
incisions. Vent hole in center of base.

Standing bull with area between legs at front and under belly solid;
between legs at rear tail brought down as support continuing into
rectangular base. Haunches and shoulders well modeled; chest marked by
shallowly undulating line pinched to thick apex with shallow diagonal
incision marking folds of flesh; triangular ears, incised brows and eyes;
traces of nostril incision on left side. Small genitalia and fetlocks
above hooves modeled.

N.84: TC Reclining Eros Figurine from ? (2nd-1st c BCE)
On rectangular base chubby Eros reclining on right elbow with right
hand on rabbit. Round face with eyebrows, eyes, nostrils, mouth, and cleft
in chin articulated by incision; wreath on head with hair articulated by
incisions going from forehead down back of head on either side of wreath,
with clumps of hair articulated by irregular incision falling on either
side of head. Left arm covered by drapery stretched out and resting on
bent left leg; incised lines roughly articulating folds of drapery; some
articulation of feathers of left wing. Raised band runs around back of
figure under back of wings, possibly meant as drapery.

N.86: ST Head of Female Figure from Italy (2nd c BCE)
Head and neck of female with wig-like hair parted in middle and pulled
back into a bun, hair strands marked by broad saw tooth impressions. Flat
oval face projecting forward with plastic eyes with pupils incised,
prominent nose with nostrils indicated, and with horizontal mouth slit on
raised surface indicating lips, upper lip with slight horizontal
depression at center. Thick neck spreading toward break, possibly not
attached to a body but some kind of base. Flesh painted reddish, hair
showing traces of white paint which is better preserved on forehead in
front of hair mass.

back after removal from mould.

hole at heel; top surface about flat with central hole. Toes articulated,
but poorly shaped with no appreciable articulation of joints; toenails

remaining toes. Ankle bones articulated inside and out. Resting on thick
base. Coated all over except for broad strip on inside of ankle and under
side of base with red paint and sandal painted in black: represented as
thin sole, from which rise at heel thin straps which tie in bow at top of
foot & from which extend 3 straps, 2 reaching to sole at sides, 1 reaching
to sole between big and first toe; single strap around heel.

which rise flat-surfaced, 7-petaled palmettes, each w bipartite triangular
base. Back flat.

Fragment from top of plaque with h relief band of bead
and reel separating top edge from main section of plaque; plaque finished
with alternating 9-petaled palmettes and lotus; on main section
intertwined tails of fish with opposing tail-fins above which pres base of
trident in low relief; at finished edge of plaque part of lotus with a
stem of grain between outer petal and central section. Traces of white
slip on front; small patches of white incrustation on front, considerable
white incrustation on flat back surfaces.

Relief figure of kneeling satyr facing right with left
arm stretched up to grape vine and right arm less strongly bent; well
muscled body in baroque style with cloak tied at neck and curving down
back to just above small tail; bearded with full head of curly hair,
articulation of eye by rounded depression, and open mouth. In front of
and above head of satyr bunches of grapes. Figure rests on low raised
border beneath which flat, apparently undecorated band extends to finished
edge of plaque. Patch of green paint on body, probably modern.

Fragment from bottom of plaque with terminal band of
pendant palmettes separated by raised band with central depression from
main portion of plaque. 6-leaf palmettes suspended from spiral scrolls
which curve up in center, down at ends. Above raised band heavily draped
figure in archaizing style drapery moves on tip-toe toward what appears to
be an altar w gabled top & ?lion feet; nature of dress uncertain with
swallow tail folds in front of & towards center of figure and at rear
stacked folds. Apparently whole plaque covered with white slip with added
red on lower portion of one palmette preserved and added blue on side
panels yellowish-brown. Yellowish brown on lower portion of altar.
Traces of peg hole on upper edge.

wrapped around l arm; center figure moving l on tiptoe wearing chiton, w l
breast bared, & r arm raised & l arm down behind her at side w hand
holding rear body & legs of ?fawn; himation around shoulders and falling
down to waist on r, to near hem of chiton on l; r figure moving r on
tiptoe in chiton & himation which falls behind r shoulder, r arm down to
side w hand holding upper body of fawn by r leg, staff of thyrsus visible
at r edge. Figures standing on raised band below which thick rope band,
at bottom of which broken edge of lower portion of hearthguard. Whole
front surface originally covered with dark metallic slip. Fire-darkened
back surface concave, sloping in toward bottom.

of which suspended dead rabbit; unknown object in r hand which stretched
behind figure. Classicizing style drapery of features of face, hair
pulled back in chignon. Left figure seen from back w head l & r arm bent
up w thyrsus w in r hand two curving leaves on staff below head; ?chiton
draped so as to leave arm bare, swath of drapery pulled from front to back
over r arm. Slip on front & darkening on rear as on N.193. b. Fragment
of main body w 3 maenads. Central figure moving r wearing chiton w
himation around shoulders & falling on either side of body, w at l drapery
bundled up to hold ?grapes; l figure moving r; fragmentary r figure moving
rapidly r, holding knife behind her in r hand. Area below figures and

from forehead around side of head and ending in chignon. Right hand
figure in chiton with left breast bare and cloak in arc from in front of
right arm to back of left arm which stretches out behind; upraised right
arm with hand holding knife; face and hair as on preceding figure but with
head downturned. Below figures narrow horizontal band with thick rope
band below. Ext originally covered with dark metallic slip; int
