Professional Development Funding

A Way to Keep Growing

The Senate realized many staff did not have access to professional development funds in their own departments, so it has devoted part of its budget to making professional development opportunities available to unclassified staff. This year, the Senate is making two rounds of awards. The first round of awards, worth up to $500, was granted in the fall of 2010. A second round of awards is being given this spring.

The professional development fund program, created with the help of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and the Office of the Provost, has helped staff attend and present at conferences, start new research programs, attend workshops and undertake special projects.

Staff who benefited from the funds include:

  • Letha Johnson, archivist, Spencer Research Library, $250 to attend the IASA/AMIA 2010 Joint Conference and Workshop in Philadelphia, PA, Nov. 2-6, 2010.
  • Yusuke Hayashi, research associate, Life Span Institute, $500 to present a poster at the Annual Convention of the Southeastern Association for Behavior Analysis in Ashville, NC, Nov. 4-7, 2010.
  • Kevin Boatright, director of communications, Research and Graduate Studies, $375 to attend the CASE District VI Conference in Kansas City, MO, Jan. 9-11, 2011.
  • Jeri Glynn, director of ticketing, Lied Center, $250 to attend the INTIX Conference in San Francisco, CA, Jan. 18-20, 2011.
