TASK FORCE ON PROMOTION
AND TENURE
Issue 1: University standards for tenure and promotion. This forum will focus on what standards should be required at the university level. Candidates from all units would be expected to meet these standards. (Discussion Draft Provision: 6.1.2.) FORUM DATE: Monday, Oct. 23, 3:30 p.m., Relays Room, Burge Union
Issue 2: Unit level criteria and procedures. This forum will focus on the provisions relating to the establishment of unit level criteria and procedures to implement the university requirements, including the process through which these criteria and procedures are developed. (Discussion Draft Provisions 6.1.2.4 & 6.1.3.) FORUM DATE: Thurs., Oct. 19, 11:45 a.m., Olympian Room, Burge.
Issue 3: Openness
of process and confidentiality. This forum will focus on the transparency of the tenure and
promotion process and the opportunities for affected faculty to have input into
the process, along with the related problem of confidentiality to ensure candid
evaluations. (Discussion Draft Provisions: 6.1.3.3, 6.1.5, miscellaneous
provisions in sections 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5). FORUM DATE: Wed, Oct. 25, 1:30 p.m.,
Issue 4: Composition of committees, conflicts of interest, and voting. This forum will focus on the representative character of committees, prevention of conflicts of interest, and who should be eligible to vote on issues of tenure and promotion. Issue 5: Oversight and
appeal. This forum
will focus on how to ensure compliance with standards and procedures and on
appeals to the Committee on Tenure and Related Issues, previously known as the
Committee on Tenure and Related Problems. (Discussion Draft Provision: 6.7). FORUM DATE: MONDAY, Oct. 9, 5:00 p.m.,
Issue 6: Non-Teaching
Faculty. This forum
will focus on the distinctive issues surrounding the application of standards,
procedures, and guidelines to non-teaching faculty, including library and
research faculty. (Various Discussion Draft Provisions). FORUM DATE: Tuesday, Oct. 10, Noon,
General Forum. This forum is not devoted to any particular issue and will address other issues as well as provide an opportunity for faculty who could not attend a particular forum to address the issues raised. FORUM DATE: Friday, Oct. 20, 3:00 p.m., Olympian Room, Burge Union
