Chair Lisa Wolf-Wendel called the meeting to order.
REPORT OF THE FACEX CHAIR
Lisa Wolf-Wendel reported that Sandra Gautt has agreed to chair the Athletic Committee, and Steve Maynard-Moody will chair the new Task Force on Domestic Partner Benefits. Nancy Kinnersley will be asked to serve as the Faculty Senate liaison to the Unclassified Senate meetings.
COMMITTEE CHARGES
Wolf-Wendel noted that a new charge will be added to the Faculty Compensation Committee requesting that they look into the required sixty day delay for new employee health insurance.
The Task Force on the Faculty Handbook suggested that the FRPR Committee be given a charge to update the Faculty Code of Rights and Responsibilities, and that the FRB Committee be given a charge to develop procedures for hearings and appeals for cases other that promotion and tenure. Ada Emmett/Ben Eggleson moved that Wolf-Wendel draft these two charges. Passed.
Wolf-Wendel reported that the Faculty Handbook Task Force also recommended that a group be formed to look at policies involving unclassified academic staff. Mulloy will obtain a list of current academic staff from HREO so that appointments may be made. .
Members briefly discussed a letter sent by the faculty president several years ago to all instructors advising them of their intellectual property rights in the classroom. Consensus was for Wolf-Wendel to review the memo and decide whether to send it again this fall to the faculty.
OPEN ACCESS (“OA”) IMPLEMENTATION TASK FORCE
Wolf-Wendel announced that Ada Emmett has agreed to chair this task force. Members suggested that the task force include a scientist from the unclassified academic staff, a member of the unclassified professional staff, a representative from the Provost’s office, Josh Rosenbloom from Research, and a dean or department chair. It was agreed that Wolf-Wendel will contact the interim College dean to see if he would be willing to serve on it. Emmett is drafting a press release for Wolf-Wendel to send to the faculty regarding the Provost’s approval of the Open Access Policy, and University Relations will prepare a press release for external distribution.
