REPORT OF THE FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT
Nancy Kinnersley reported that she has contacted all of the Faculty Senate committee chairs and is receiving preliminary reports from them.
Facex has approved the procedures to be used by the SPPT Committee (Standards and Procedures for Promotion and Tenure) when it reviews unit P&T plans.
The Faculty Senate Research committee (FSRC) has set up subcommittees for the following areas: General Research Fund, restricted Research and Pre-Proposal, Academic Computing, Initiative 2015, and Open Access.  One of FSRC’s standing charges is to monitor the administration of the General Research Fund, including such things as updating the list of recipients.  The subcommittee is looking into the nonfunctional GRF database. This could be a problem because one of the major charges is to conduct a comprehensive third-year review of the use of GRF funds and accomplishments resulting from this funding.
The FRPR Committee (Faculty Rights, Privileges, and Responsibilities) is monitoring the revision of the Faculty handbook and all m embers have received a copy of the draft prepared by the Task Force on the Handbook for Faculty and Unclassified Staff.  FRPR has requested data from OIRP (Institutional Research) on the use of non-tenure track instructors.
The Faculty Compensation Committee chair is keeping in touch with the activities of the new Task Force on Employee Benefits, which is chaired by Bill Crowe.  The committee chair noted that the new invention assignment agreement seems to be a regression from Initiative 2015.
Kinnersley answered several questions from Senate members about committee activities.

No further business.

Respectfully submitted,
Molly Mulloy
