            FacEx chair Nancy Kinnersley called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

MINUTES for September 16, 2008, were approved.

REPORT OF THE FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT

            Nancy Kinnersley reported on the meeting she and Mary Berry held with Vice Provosts Mary Lee Hummert and Danny Anderson last week. A pilot study of a new KU advising system is taking place at several professional schools, with the expectation that the new system will ultimately replace the entire ARTS system. Kinnersley expressed concern about several aspects of the new system.

            Discussion ensued about appeals of academic policies to the FacEx appeals committee.

NEW BUSINESS

            John Staniunas noted that the Planning and Resources Committee held its first meeting today, with Interim Vice Provost/Comptroller Diane Goddard reporting on the KU budget.
