            Nancy Kinnersley announced that there would not be time for FacEx to meet today; the agenda items will be discussed at FacEx’s meeting on Thursday.

            Kinnersley briefly described a request to the Chancellor, forwarded to the FacEx appeals committee, to grant a posthumous degree to a student who died in a car accident in her last semester at KU.  There is currently no written KU policy on this kind of request, though the Board of Regents policy manual states that each university should have its own policy.  Members agreed with Nancy’s recommendation that the granting of a posthumous degree be made automatic, with a letter from the Chancellor to the student’s family, if a student in good standing dies in his/her final semester at KU. She will discuss this with the Provost’s Office to ascertain the placement for such a policy, e.g., in the Provost’s policy website rather than in the USRR.
