Revised SenEx Basketball Policy
Adopted by University Council 11/10/05Types of Ticket Holders
There will be two types of ticket holders: season ticket holders and half-season ticket purchasers.
- Season Ticket Holders: Up to 1600 (out of the 1810 faculty/staff seats will be sold as season tickets. As season tickets become available due to attrition, Kansas Athletics will make them available to faculty and staff to maintain the approximate ratio of 1600:210.
Eligibility
- Half-season Package Purchasers: The remaining 210 seats will be available for sale yearly in half-season packages,
- KU benefits-eligible faculty and staff (Permanent employee 50% or more) and retirees are eligible to purchase up to two tickets each.
- Eligible faculty and staff who currently hold season tickets and those who buy them in the future will be considered season ticket holders until they cease to be employed by KU or choose to give up the tickets.
- Individuals who purchase half-season packages may purchase both packages. Individuals who purchase half-season tickets will not have “permanent status” as half-season ticket buyers; they must apply anew each year.
- Surviving spouses or partners of faculty/staff will be able to purchase tickets for as long as they wish. However, tickets may not be passed on to children or relatives upon death of surviving spouse or partner.
Seating
- Seating of all season ticket holders will be done by seniority (years of service to the University.) Retires will cease to accrue years of service and will be assigned the years of service at the time of retirement.
- Half-season purchasers will be seated after season ticket holders in faculty/staff seats that remain.
- Kansas Athletics, in consultation with the SenEx Basketball Committee, will determine the actual process for selection of seats for both season ticket holders and half-season package purchasers. Kansas Athletics and the SenEx Basketball Committee reserve the right to reseat faculty each year. Reseating is the only way to allow the seniority system to work.
Role of Governance
Role of SenEx Basketball Committee
- Determine eligibility and confirm years of service for season ticket holders. Determine eligibility for half-season ticket purchasers.
- Compile and maintain, on a yearly basis, a list of faculty and staff who are interested in becoming season ticket holders for the coming year. This list will be forwarded to Kansas Athletics who will send buyer forms to these faculty/staff.
- The Governance Office will maintain waiting lists for season tickets.
- Provide volunteers for faculty and staff select-a-seat as necessary. A volunteer form will be included with ticket renewal information. Volunteers will return this form to the Governance Office. Volunteers will be randomly selected from those who volunteer. Unless there are insufficient volunteers in any one year, ticket holders will not be able to volunteer two years in a row. A new list will be compiled each year.
Role of Kansas Athletics
- Work with Kansas Athletics on matters of policy and policy implementation, including seating and renegotiating the policy. Major changes to the policy must receive appropriate governance approvals.
- Consult with the SenEx Basketball Committee on matters of policy affecting faculty and staff tickets and ticket use (e.g., when the full allotment of tickets is not used).
- Implement the actual ticket sales and seating processes with assistance of SenEx Basketball Committee as necessary.

Implementation details
We recommend that first shot at the new season tickets for 2006-07 be given to faculty and staff who current have lottery tickets or partial packages through the online August sale in 2005. New season tickets would be sold until the specified limit is reached. The following were presented to University Council as potential steps.
For the 2006-07 season
- In early April 2006 (or soon after the season ends) the Governance Office will send letters to current lottery winners and half-season ticket holders asking them to indicate if they wish to buy season tickets. They will be asked to reply to the Governance Office. We will check employment status, years of service and place names on the season ticket holder list sent to Kansas Athletics, who then mail renewal forms to all season ticket holders. The Governance Office will maintain any waiting list that results.
- Based on response of current lottery and half-season ticket purchasers to the April request and estimated attrition among current season ticket holders, a decision will be made as to whether to announce availability of season tickets to the entire faculty and staff. This COULD BE done AS EARLY AS late April or early May of 2006. (UNCERTAIN OF EXACT DATE) The Governance Office will make contacts and will maintain any resulting waiting list.
- Remaining tickets will be available in late August for new faculty and staff or individuals interested in buying half-season packages.
Subsequent seasons
The Governance Office will send a letter to the entire faculty and staff indicating the anticipated number of new season tickets (estimated attrition rate is 10%.) and asking interested individuals to put their names on a list in the Governance Office. We need to work with the Kansas Athletics Ticket Office to determine exactly how and when this will be done. Again, the Governance Office will maintain any waiting list that results from excess demand for season tickets.
