Are you a string player excited about music? Do you enjoy performing orchestral literature? Do you plan to continue playing after high school and want to learn more about college life? If so, KU Stringworks is for you!

KU Stringworks is designed to give young string players a glimpse into the world of collegiate music training. The two-day program includes the following activities:

  • Orchestra sessions with Professor David Neely
  • All-State Audition clinics for all string instruments
  • Faculty recital featuring University of Kansas string professors
  • College Life presentation and question-answer session with university music students
  • Free culminating concert at The Lied Center featuring a side-by-side performance of the KU Stringworks Orchestra and the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra.

Students who attend KU Stringworks will have the opportunity to closely interact with the University of Kansas string faculty members and students from outstanding string programs in the country. Please join us for this special event!

Eligibility

String students, including violin, viola, cello and bass players in grades 8 to 12 are invited to participate in KU Stringworks. Although no audition is necessary, students are required to obtain a signature of recommendation from a private instructor or orchestra director as indicated on the registration form. Students should submit the KU Stringworks Registration Form, KU Stringworks Medical Form, and tuition payment of $35 by mail. Registration submissions must be postmarked no later than October 15th, 2009.

KU Stringworks participants will receive letters of admission and music for Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns after all registration materials are received. Students should prepare Danse Macabre for KU Stringworks orchestra rehearsals and the culminating side-by-side concert with the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra.

Tuition

Tuition is $35 per student and includes lunch on Friday, October 23rd.

Housing

Participants are responsible for securing accommodations in Lawrence. Recommendations are provided in the
Hotel Information List.

Transportation

Participants are responsible for securing transportation in Lawrence area for the weekend. Lawrence is convenient to the
Kansas City International Airport (MCI), K-10, and I-70.

Free parking is available in Surface Lot 54 (West Murphy Hall) across from the main entrance of Murphy Hall and in Surface Lot 300 in front of the Lied Center.
