Funding Sources for Graduate Students

Funding for graduate students in the Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders (IPCD) falls into the following categories:

Graduate School Fellowships (limited to two nominations by the program for each fellowship). To be considered for nomination for these highly competitive fellowships, submit your complete graduate application to the admissions secretary no later than January 15th if you wish to enter in the fall. Awards are determined on the basis of merit competition. The IPCD has had several successful candidates for these awards. See www.graduate.ku.edu/funding/internal/ for details about the types of fellowships.

IPCD Program Projects and Traineeships. The number of projects and traineeships may vary from year to year. A project-specific application, additional coursework, or previous training may be required for eligibility. Some examples are listed below:

  • Veterans Administration Hospital Traineeship (Kansas City, MO and Topeka, KS). See www.va.gov/oaa/fellowships/.
  • Developmental Disabilities Center Traineeships, KU Medical Center Campus (usually reserved for second-year graduate students).

Graduate Teaching Assistantship and Graduate Research Assistantship in the Departments of Speech-Language-Hearing (Lawrence) or Hearing and Speech (KU Medical Center, Kansas City). The number and type of these positions vary from year to year. See faculty pages at www.ku.edu/~splh/ipcd/Faculty/ to contact individual faculty members and inquire about the availability of assistantships.
