Speech-Language Services
The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic students and faculty provide both assessment and intervention services to people of all ages who have communication challenges. The Schiefelbusch Clinic uses a community-based model, providing services in a variety of settings. Clinic programs include speech-language assessment, speech-language therapy, cleft palate resources, the Language Acquisition Preschool, and an Augmentative and Alternative Communication Resource Laboratory.

Speech-Language Assessment
Assessment services are provided to individuals of all ages for articulation or speech sound disorders, language impairments, voice disorders, problems in fluency or stuttering, and impaired oral muscular control. The assessment typically includes comprehensive testing and observation, interviews with the client and family members, and consultation regarding the clinical findings and recommendations. Assessments for speech and/or language concerns can be scheduled by completing the Intake Questionnaire or calling the Clinic. Time and day of the assessment will be mutually determined.
Speech-Language Intervention
Speech and/or language interventions take place in the Clinic as well as in community locations. Speech services include intervention for speech sound disorders, voice disorders, problems with fluency or stuttering and oral-motor/motor speech problems. Language intervention services address the developmental language problems of children as well as those that are acquired as the result of stroke, head injury or other neurological issues. Individual and group intervention contexts are available for children and adults. To initiate services, complete the Intake Questionnaire or contact the Clinic.
Communication Connections
The Communication Connections Program is designed to enhance communication and social relationships within a group setting. The groups are open to any child, teen, adult and their families. They provide a relaxing, enjoyable environment to focus on communication and social relationships. Sessions are held in a variety of settings. The group meeting times vary in length but typically run 60-90 minutes and are facilitated by a speech-language pathologist and graduate students in speech-language pathology. Session days and times will be determined based on preferences of those interested.
Language Acquisiton Preschool
The Language Acquisition Preschool (LAP) is a licensed program that serves children with and without communication disabilities. It is also a practicum placement site for students learning to use indirect intervention techniques within the classroom setting. Typically, one-third of each class consists of children with speech and language impairments, one-third have typical language development, and one-third are learning English as a second language. LAP is a three-hour a day, 4 day a week program (there is a morning class and an afternoon class serving 18 children in each class). The head teacher in the class is a speech language pathologist and the assistant teacher is an early childhood educator. For more information, contact Dr. Betty Bunce
