Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic

Are you a family with a child who has an autism spectrum disorder and uses AAC?

Are you interested in receiving support for your child's communication/learning needs? If so, consider joining the CAT Project: Communication, Autism, and Technology. This innovative project provides specialized training in the areas of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) to graduate students in speech-language pathology at the University of Kansas. Graduate students are paired with families of children with autism spectrum disorders who use AAC or are in the process of obtaining an AAC system. Families receive 20 hours of support from two graduate students each month. That support can occur in home and community settings and is based on the needs of the families. Collaboration between families, students and project staff provides the graduate students with opportunities to learn from families and families to receive support.

Participation in the project begins August 17, 2009 and lasts for at least one year, with the potential of participating for two years. The application deadline is Friday, July 31, 2009. Click below for the application form, print it, fill it out, and mail it to: CAT Project; 1200 Sunnyside Ave.; 2101 Haworth Hall; Lawrence, KS 66045.
