GETTING STARTED: Once in the main program, you will see the main window and menu bar. The OPTION selection on the menu bar is the most important of all the menus. From here you can select a text for reading, conduct searches, and save or print a text you are working with. You can also work with a graphic image of the OPTION MENU called the OPTIONS PALETTE. You can access the OPTIONS PALETTE by clicking on OPTION in the menu bar and then clicking on the OPTIONS PALETTE heading. A moveable palette of icons will appear in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Each icon corresponds to one of the items in the OPTION MENU - just click on and icon to perform a function.

The words or phrases you have selected will be highlighted in red in the transcription of the text(s).
Two difference search options are possible: you may either search by Query Language or via the Glossary. The bottom half of the FIND WORD WINDOW displays a glossary of all the words in all the manuscripts on the CD-ROM. To choose a word from this list, first enter in the WORD field a few letters of the word you wish to search for. The glossary will scroll to the section that contains words with those letters. Use the mouse to click on the desired word.
To search more complex logical searches using Query language, click on the SEARCH field and type in your search string directly. The * and ? characters act as wildcards and can replace a series of unknown letters (*), or a single unknown letter(?). The = character finds variations of a word. Please consult the ADMYTE user's manual for a full description of other search options. For example:
PORTUG* - (Portugal, Portuguese, portuguesa, portugueses, portuguesas....)
AMARILL? - (amarillo, amarilla),
=AMAR would find pages with all the different variations of the word AMAR such as AMO, AMAS, AMA.....
GLOSSARY OF LEMMATA: The glossary is a search utility to help those users who do not have a thorough knowledge of old Spanish, so that they can easily move through different morphologic variants of words. To access the glossary, click on the GLOSSARY OF LEMMATA in the OPTION WINDOW or click on its on its icon in the OPTIONS PALETTE. A window is divided into two parts. The upper section contains a list of words in alphabetical order, and the lower contains the Lemmata viewer. When you click on any of the words in the upper section, the lower viewer displays all the corresponding forms of that word. To search for the word click on the SEARCH LEXICAL ITEM button. To search for its forms click on the SEARCH LEMMATA button. Results will be displayed in the FIND WORD WINDOW. Click on the GOTO button to view the actual words in the text highlighted in red.
COPY TRANSCRIPTION OR IMAGE: Part of the transcription or image can be copied to the Windows Clipboard by entering the EDIT MENU and clicking on COPY IMAGE or COPY TRANSCRIPTION. Then exit ADMYTE , open the Windows Clipboard and save the image or transcription to a floppy disk.
