PLACEMENT GUIDELINES— Elementary Spanish
Effective for Fall 2005
SPAN 104: Elementary Spanish I
This course is for students who have
had no Spanish in high school. For permission to enroll in this
course, a student must show his/her high school transcript to Prof.
Amy Rossomondo
or Prof. Rosalea Postma-Carttar of the Department of Spanish
and Portuguese.
SPAN 108: Elementary Spanish II
This course is open only
to those students who have completed SPAN 104 or SPAN 105 at KU.
It assumes familiarity and experience with the particular approach
employed in
KU's
SPAN 104 and SPAN 105.
SPAN 111: Intensive Elementary Spanish
This
course is for students who have had some previous study of Spanish,
but who do not place into
the Intermediate level. This course prepares students for Intermediate
level study of Spanish. SPAN 111 will bring students who have had
some high school Spanish (approximately 1—3 years) to the point that
they can enroll in SPAN 212 for the subsequent semester. (Students
entering
KU with the equivalent of SPAN 104 from another college or university
will enroll in SPAN 111.)
First course beyond
the Elementary level:
SPAN 212: Intermediate
Spanish I
This course is for students who have
completed SPAN 108 at KU or who place into the Intermediate level through
the placement exam and/or the advice of a Spanish placement advisor.
