Ashley Bloom, senior in Spanish, receives Excellence in Community Education and Leadership Award

Ashley E. Bloom, a Spanish major, is one of two KU seniors to receive the 16th annual Excellence in Community Education and Leadership Award, presented at the KU-Nebraska homecoming football game on November 3. This award consists of a scholarship in recognition of achievement and leadership, and recipients' work on a leadership conference with the KU Student Involvement and Leadership Center. Bloom is the daughter of James and Susan Bloom of Hutchinson, Kansas. Her service and leadership activity include co-directing Alternative Breaks at KU, volunteering for the JayDoc Free Clinic in Kansas City, Kansas, and serving on the Douglas County United Way Board and, for two terms, as a Junior/Senior CLAS Senator for the KU Student Senate. She is a Watkins-Berger scholar and a member of the KU Honors Program and the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school and to earn a master’s degree in public health as well as a medical degree.
