The theme for this years colloquium will be Visual Cultures of Latin America, and will feature the research of Professors Tamara Falicov (Film), Tony Rosenthal (History), and Steve Goddard (Spencer Art Museum).

Roberta Johnson, Professor Emerita in this Department and a top scholar in 19th & 20th Century Spanish Peninsular Studies will be back at KU on October 24 and 25. Professor Johnson was Chair of this Department in the mid-1990s and later Director of the Hall Center for Humanities. Professor Johnsons books are Carmen Laforet, El ser y la palabra en Gabriel Mir, Crossfire: Philosophy and the Novel in Spain 1900-1930, Las bibliotecas de Azorn, and Gender and Nation in the Spanish Modernist Novel and she is currently completing a book on Spanish Feminist Theory. Her broad interests encompass literature and philosophy and the history of ideas. On October 24 from 3:30-5 she will be the guest of the Hall Center Gender Seminar with a paper on Major Concepts in Spanish Feminist Theory.
