Flowers, Dragons, and Pine Trees: Asian Textiles in the Spencer Museum of Art by Mary M. Dusenbury
Flowers, Dragons, and Pine Trees document the collection of textiles at The Spencer Museum of Art. The collection, a gift from Sallie Casey Thayer in 1917, consists of over seventy-five hundred works from Europe, East Asia, and The United States. Since then, the Asian textile collection has grown through the generous gifts of museum patrons and acquisitions. Some examples of pieces in the collection include folk costume, temple and household furnishings, and numerous pieces of complex weaving, embroidery, and dyeing. The textiles range in date from the fifteenth to the late twentieth century.
