Maria B. Thorson



Maria is a 2005 – 2009 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry. She received a B.S. (2005) in chemistry from Saint Louis University. Maria was a 2004 Barry M. Goldwater Scholar and received the James D. Collins Award for Student Academic Excellence in chemistry, the American Chemical Society Undergraduate Award in analytical chemistry, and Outstanding Chemistry Student Award. She was a chemistry teaching assistant at Saint Louis University and Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow and Dr. Scholl Scholar at Mayo Graduate School during the summer of 2004. Maria presented posters at the American Chemical Society National Meetings in March 2004 and March 2005. Maria is interested in studying chemistry in biological systems at the cellular level. She plans to pursue an academic career in scientific research and actively participate in current bioethical debates.
