Carol E. Stotz

Carol, a 1998-2002 Self Fellow, received her Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry in 2003. She graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. (1998) in pharmacy. In January 2001, she earned her M.S. in pharmaceutical chemistry and, in December 2001, was awarded the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturer's Association Predoctoral Fellowship, one of three awarded nationally.

Carol is interested in the physical chemistry of peptides in the solution state. The goals of the project are twofold. The first goal is to determine the impact of peptide folding dynamics on asparagine deamidation. The second goal is to characterize the degradation products to evaluate any loss in peptide structure. These studies will enhance the understanding of the behavior of peptides in pharmaceutical formulations and improve product development. Carol intends to work as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry.
