Joseph S. Soltys

Joe is a 2004 – 2008 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. He received a B.S. (2001) in mechanical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York. Joe's primary research interest is in the field of human biomechanics, specifically spinal stability and control. Currently he is investigating how motion is sensed in the lumbar spine to try to better understand low back pain and injury. Joe has worked for two years as a project engineer at Pactiu. He hopes to start his own company to provide clinical equipment based upon his findings.
