Hal is a 2001-2005 Self Fellow pursuing
a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. He received a B.A. (2001) in psychology
from California State University, San Bernardino, where he graduated
with highest honors.
Hal studies and conducts research on the topic of hope. The goal
of his research is to identify those positive developmental processes
that lead to a style of hopeful thinking. Through investigating the
links between attachment theory and hope, he proposes to clarify those
processes as well as the ways in which positive development can sometimes
go awry. This research should facilitate the development of interventions
to reach at-risk young people before they are called upon to make
the educational and career decisions that will set their trajectories
well into adulthood.
