Sophie E. Ambrose

 

Sophie is a 2002-2006 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in the intercampus program for communicative disorders. She received a B.S. (2002), summa cum laude, with a major in speech pathology and a minor in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Central Arkansas Honors College. Sophie was a presidential scholar at the University of Central Arkansas, where she was chosen as one of the university's five most outstanding students. Sophie received three grants for undergraduate research, three travel grants, and the prestigious Research in Higher Education Mentoring grant to work with a professor at Johns Hopkins University. Sophie's primary research interests are early identification and intervention for newborns who are deaf and hard of hearing as related to language development in infants and toddlers. Her current research focuses on emergent literacy development in children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
