Sophie E. Ambrose
Sophie, a 2002-2006 Self Fellow, received a Ph.D. in speech-language pathology in 2009. She received a B.S. (2002), summa cum laude, with a major in speech pathology and a minor in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Central Arkansas Honors College. Sophie was a presidential scholar at the University of Central Arkansas, where she was chosen as one of the university's five most outstanding students. Sophie received three grants for undergraduate research, three travel grants, and the prestigious Research in Higher Education Mentoring grant to work with a professor at Johns Hopkins University. Sophie's primary research interests at KU were early identification and intervention for newborns who are deaf and hard of hearing as related to language development in infants and toddlers. Sophie was a research associate at House Research Institute in Los Angeles, California, prior to accepting her current position.
