Karen Beckman Pace

 

Karen is pursuing a Ph.D. in nursing with a minor in health policy. She obtained a B.S.N. (1974) from Southern Illinois University and a M.S.N. (1978) from St. Louis University, where she concentrated on medical-surgical nursing in community settings.

She has focused her nursing career in the field of home care and has held a variety of positions including clinical, management, education, and policy. She has developed programs for hospice care and home infusion therapy. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Karen was the vice president for research and regulatory affairs at the National Association for Home Care.

Her research interests include the effectiveness of health care services, particularly nursing and home health care. Her dissertation will examine the relationship between resource use (cost/quantity of services) and patient outcomes in home care agencies. Karen is the recipient of the 2001 Ph.D. Award from the KU Nurse’s Alumni Association for outstanding performance in scholarship and leadership.
