Lon H. Mitchell

 

Lon is a 2000-2004 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics. He received a B.S. (2000) with a major in mathematics and a minor in English and a Bachelor of Music (2000) with a concentration in music theory and composition from Central Michigan University. He completed a M.A. (2001) in mathematics from the University of Kansas. Lon’s primary research interests are in the areas of K-theory and C*-algebras, although he has done work in matrix theory and combinatorics. Over the past several years, Lon has attended and presented at numerous regional and national mathematics conferences all over the country. In addition, he spent two weeks studying matrix theory at the Rocky Mountain Mathematics Consortium Summer Conference in Laramie, WY, and another two weeks studying signal processing methods at the Mathematical Science Research Institute in Berkeley, CA.
