Mary E. Krause
| Mary a 2005 - 2009 Self Fellow, received a Ph.D. in chemistry in 2011. She received a B.S. (2005), summa cum laude, in chemistry with a minor in biology and an M.S. (2005) in chemistry from Southwest Misssouri State University. While at SMSU, Mary was named the Outstanding Graduating Senior in the chemistry department, received the Outstanding Inorganic Chemistry Student Award, and was the president of the Chemistry Honor Society and the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. As a graduate student Mary made a poster presentation at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego. She was a graduate teaching assistant at SMSU and at KU. Mary's doctoral work was in bioinorganic chemistry. She studied an enzyme involved in collagen biosynthesis in order to design inhibitors as potential therapeutics for fibrotic disease. She held an internship with Genentech, Inc., in San Francisco and is currently a PhRMA Foundation postdoctoral research fellow at KU working with Professor Jennifer Laurence.
