Jaime N. Gassmann

 

Jaime is a 2002-2006 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in American Studies. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. (2002) in English from Southern Methodist University, where she also received the Most Outstanding Senior Student Award along with University Honors and Departmental Distinction. Jaime received her M.A. (2004) with honors in American Studies from the University of Kansas. In 2004, she attended the International Institute for Political and Economic Studies in Greece, a program operated in conjunction with Georgetown University. Jaime's area of expertise is the political economy of globalization. Her dissertation, "Army Wives and Family Readiness Groups," uses ethnographic data collection and sociological theory to investigate the articulation of the institutions of the family and the military. Jaime's long-term goal is to work at a think-tank or for the government to bridge the gap between academics and public policy makers.
