1. How do I apply?
Students must apply to the Graduate
Studies at the University of Kansas and to the appropriate
department. Departments will nominate those students whom they
believe have the attributes of a Self Fellow. Once nominated,
students receive nomination information including deadlines
and instructions on writing a personal statement. [Back]
2. What is the total value of the fellowship?
The total value of the four-year fellowship exceeds $160,000.
We anticipate that Self Fellows for 2010-2011 will receive $25,500
each year for four years.
The Fellowship also pays for all
tuition and fees with a four-year cap of 84 hours. Additionally,
students participate in professional development programs throughout
the year. A capstone of the development program is an intensive
public policy seminar held in Washington, D.C. [Back]
3. How long is the fellowship?
Students receive funding and participate in the development
program for four years. They then become members of the Society
of Self Fellows. When students receive their Ph.D.s, they become
lifetime members of the Society with the ability to vote and

4. Does the fellowship cover my tuition and fees?
The Fellowship pays for all tuition and fees for four years
with a cap of 84 hours. The Fellowship pays all tuition costs,
regardless of residency status. When possible, fellows are encouraged
to seek Kansas residency. [Back]

The Self Graduate Fellowship operates under guidelines that
specify eligible disciplines.
