Gbaike is a 2002-2006 Self Fellow pursuing
a Ph.D. in American studies. She received a B.S. (2000) in civil and
environmental engineering from the University of Kansas. Gbaike’s
research focuses on the networking patterns, community building, and
identity formation of Black African immigrants in the Midwest. Using
the ethnographic methodology, Gbaike will critically examine the concepts
of race, ethnicity, assimilation, and acculturation as it relates to
African immigrants.
