Lisa M. Castle
Lisa, a 2000-2004 Self Fellow, received her Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology in 2006. She received a B.A. summa cum laude with a major in environmental, population and organismic biology (1994) from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Lisa's primary academic interest while at KU was the ecology of useful plants of the Great Plains. She researched the population biology and ethnobotany of the prairie turnip with hopes to determine the level of sustainable wild harvest for it and other useful native plants. Prior to graduate school, Lisa worked as an educator through botanical gardens. Communicating the importance of plants and natural areas remains a priority to her. After graduating from KU, Lisa worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. Lisa is the president of the Board of Governors of the Society of Self Fellows. Mentor: Kelly Kindscher, Associate Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology |
