Karl B. Brooks

Karl Brooks, a 1996-2000 Self Graduate Fellow, is an assistant professor of history and environmental studies at the University of Kansas. He received his Ph.D. in history from Kansas in 2000. His dissertation, "Unplugging the New Deal: Hells Canyon High Dam and the Postwar Northwest," explores the law and politics of hydroelectricity and fish. The University of Washington Press published Brooks’ dissertation, and he has published articles in historical and legal journals about environmental law and postwar politics. He teaches about the intersection of history, policy, and the law in 20th-century America. An Idaho native, Brooks was a trial lawyer and state
senator in his home state before earning his doctorate.
Brooks is a founding member of the Society of Self Fellows
and has served on the Board of Governors. |
