| Gary is a 2006-2010 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry.
He received a B.S. (2005) in chemistry from Georgia State University. At
GSU, he worked as a research assistant. He was the 2003-2004 Organic
Chemistry Student of the Year, and the recipient of the Dean Scholarship
Key and the Faculty Scholarship Award.
Gary has worked in industry as a pharmacy technician. His
research centers on the convergent total synthesis of a novel natural
product which exhibits interesting anti-cancer activity by inhibiting
F1Fo ATP synthase in the mitochondria of tumor cells. The next step is
to complete structure-activity relationship studies on the molecule in
an attempt to develop a novel cancer chemotherapeutic.
