Nomination Process
Departments nominate outstanding students who possess
the potential and motivation to become notable leaders and who
can be expected to make a significant contribution to their chosen
profession and to society. In order to be eligible for nomination,
you must meet a number of criteria. These include:
-
Have completed your baccalaureate degree within
the past eight years,
-
Be a U.S. citizen, and
-
Be a new Ph.D.
student or first-year Ph.D. student (at the time of nomination) without
a research-based master's degree in the Ph.D. discipline.
If you are nominated, your department will send
you the 2010
Nominee Information.
If you are nominated, a team of academic evaluators will review
your material along with all other nominations. It is important that your
letters of recommendation and your own personal statement be thoughtful and
accurate. Your personal statement should thoroughly cover the information
requested and tell us, in your own words, how you match the profile of a Self
Fellow.
If you are invited to interview for a
Self Graduate Fellowship, we will pay your travel and lodging
expenses to come to Lawrence for our interview weekend. You will
be hosted by your academic department and will have the opportunity
to meet other graduate students as well as Self Fellows. Your
Self Fellowship interview will be about 45 minutes long and will
be conducted by a team of professional interviewers.
