Private Scholarship Applications

The scholarships listed here are from agencies outside KU who requested their scholarships be publicized to our students. These scholarships vary in their qualifications, requirements, and deadlines, so all students are encouraged to pursue the opportunities listed here.

If you do receive a scholarship from any outside agency, you should report these scholarships in Enroll & Pay at sa.ku.edu (Student Center > Accept/Decline Awards, Page 2) or notify the OSFA by email, mail, or fax. If you report by email , mail, or fax, please indicate the scholarship name, amount, and term (fall/spring/summer) as well as your first and last name initials (please do not include your full name for security reasons), KUID number, permanent address and phone number, and day and month of birth (please do not include year for security reasons).

Need Analysis

Many scholarship applications consider financial need as well as academic performance. This portion of the application, also known as a Need Analysis, must be completed and certified by the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA). Please print, complete and submit the General Need Analysis Request Form along with information from the donor preferably 2 weeks prior to the scholarship application deadline. If you have questions about Need Analysis, please contact the OSFA.

  • BrainTrack Teaching Scholarship (spring)
    Deadline: 11/01 (March 1 for fall scholarship)
    Amount: $500 to $1,000
    Description: Scholarships for those planning careers as either an elementary, middle, or high school teacher. Applicants must be in a teaching program, have completed one year of their studies, and be US citizens or permanent residents.

  • National Research Council of the National Academies (Winter)
    Deadline: 11/01
    Amount: $42,000 to $72,000
    Description: Postdoctoral students in the fields of chemistry, earth and atmospheric sciences, engineering, applied science and computer science, life and medical sciences, mathematics, space and planetary sciences, and physics.

  • National Science Foundation Research Fellowship Program
    Deadline: 11/02
    Amount: up to $40,500/year
    Description: Graduate students at or near beginning of research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.

  • National Physical Science Consortium Fellowship
    Deadline: 11/05
    Amount: Support valued up to $200,000
    Description: A graduate fellowship in the physical sciences and related engineering fields. It is open to all U. S. Citizens, but with emphasis on recruitment of applications from historically underrepresented minorities and women. An NPSC Fellowship covers the first two or three years of graduate school with the possibility of continuation for several more years providing all the conditions of the fellowship continue to be met. The maximum duration is six years, in which case the overall value (allowance, tuition, fees, summer salary for two summers) of an NPSC fellowship typically well exceeds $200,000.

    Description: Full-time undergraduate with a 3.0 or higher pursuing an acturial or mathematics-related degree. Student must be a member of one of the following minority groups: African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian or Pacific Islander, Alaskan Eskimo, or other.

    Amount: Student raises $1,450 fee
    Description: Program provides students with experience and education in policy making, relationship building, and negotiation skills, within the walls of Capitol Hill. Money for program fee is generated via the student's fundraising.
