Private Scholarship Applications

The scholarships listed here are from agencies outside KU who requested their scholarships be publicized to our students. These scholarships vary in their qualifications, requirements, and deadlines, so all students are encouraged to pursue the opportunities listed here.

If you do receive a scholarship from any outside agency, you should report these scholarships in Enroll & Pay at sa.ku.edu (Student Center > Accept/Decline Awards, Page 2) or notify the OSFA by email, mail, or fax. If you report by email , mail, or fax, please indicate the scholarship name, amount, and term (fall/spring/summer) as well as your first and last name initials (please do not include your full name for security reasons), KUID number, permanent address and phone number, and day and month of birth (please do not include year for security reasons).

Need Analysis

Many scholarship applications consider financial need as well as academic performance. This portion of the application, also known as a Need Analysis, must be completed and certified by the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA). Please print, complete and submit the General Need Analysis Request Form along with information from the donor preferably 2 weeks prior to the scholarship application deadline. If you have questions about Need Analysis, please contact the OSFA.

  • Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund
    Deadline: 01/02 or until 5,000 applications are received
    Amount: up to $30,000
    Description: Women who earned a HS diploma or GED before September 2000 and are enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate course of study.

  • Department of Homeland Security Scholarship and Fellowship Program
    Deadline: 01/05 by 11:59 pm EST
    Amount: Stipend and tuition/fees
    Description: Undergraduate and graduate students studying in the fields of physical sciences, mathematical sciences, computer and information sciences, life sciences, social sciences, psychology, selected humanities, or engineering. Includes summer internship and a work commitment to a DHS-approved facility.

  • Elie Wiesel Prize In Ethics: Essay Contest
    Deadline: 01/08
    Amount: $5K, $2.5K, $1.5K & $500
    Description: Registered undergraduate full-time juniors or seniors at accredited four-year colleges or universities in the United States. An essay contest to analyze urgent ethical issues.

  • Gates Millennium Scholars Program
    Deadline: 01/12 by 11:59 PM EST
    Amount: Undesignated
    Description: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American students who will be incoming freshmen with a 3.3 GPA.

  • Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship
    Deadline: 01/12
    Amount: $32,400 plus tuition
    Description: For students pursuing a Ph.D. in areas of interest to stewardship science, such as high-energy density physics, low-energy nuclear science, or properties of materials under extreme conditions. Open to senior undergraduates and students in their first or second year of graduate study.

    Description: Students in their first or second year of graduate study in the physical, engineering, computer, mathematical, or life sciences. Exceptional senior undergraduates who can meet all the requirements may also apply.

    Description: 500-word essay contest. Applicants do not need to be members of MENSA. Must be enrolled in a degree program but is not restricted in any other way.

    Description: Recipients must be diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar disorder and currently receiving medical treatment, including medications and psychiatric follow-up.
