Living Well with a Disability

A Workshop to Help People Build the Skills
for a Healthy Lifestyle

The healthier we are, the more we're able to do the things
we want in life.

This eight-week workshop designed for people with disabilities and chronic health conditions uses goal setting and problem solving as the framework for a healthy lifestyle.

The course is offered through community-based organizations. Staff members at Kansas centers for independent living and other community groups are trained to be facilitators. Click here to see a few of these facilitators.

Learn more about Living Well:

  • If you represent a community-based organization interested in offering the course, please see this sponsoring organization brochure. Free course facilitator training is provided to staff of Centers for Independent Living or other community-based organizations. The CIL then conducts the program
    for its clients.
  • If you're a consumer who would like to learn about Living Well benefits,
    see our participant brochure.

The Living Well program is very effective. Over 1,000 individuals in 32 states have completed the workshop, with these results:

    • 37% decrease in limitation due to secondary conditions
    • A significant decrease in depression levels.
    • A 10% decline in costs for medical service

This program is funded by the Centers for Disease Control. It is offered to Kansans through a collaboration between the RTC/IL and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
