Thesis Option: 18 of the 30 graduate hours must be in courses in religious studies, the rest in fields related to a declared area of competency.
Nonthesis Option: 21 of the 33 graduate hours must be in courses in religious studies, the rest in fields related to a declared area of competency.
Both Thesis and Nonthesis Option programs require the following: REL 601; REL 780 or REL 781; one course in a Western religious tradition and one course in a non-Western religious tradition; three 700 level (or above) seminar courses; twelve hours in a declared area of competency.
