CHECK SHEET FOR GRADUATE STUDENT APPLICANTS

In making application to the Department of Religious Studies, be sure you have submitted the following items checking the box when the item is complete. Please return this sheet with your application materials.

___ 1. The completed Graduate School Application for Admission form

___ 2. Two official transcripts from each of the former institutions of higher education at which the applicant has studied. List Institutions below and the date on which the request was submitted.

___ 3. Three letters of recommendation from one's undergraduate faculty advisor and two faculty members who are well acquainted with the applicant's academic work and who can evaluate the applicant's potential as a scholar and graduate student. Contacting referees is the responsibility of the applicant. List below the names of the three referees and the dates of the requests. If applying for scholarship consideration from the Friends of the Department of Religious Studies and/or the Department of Religious Studies, please specify so by marking the appropriate box on the Letter of Recommendation Forms that you send out to the three referees (noted in #3 above). We must receive a hard copy of each recommendation letter.

___ 4. A well written essay that describes the applicant's interest in the academic study of religion, purpose in pursuing the M.A., and expected areas of emphasis in the program.

___ 5. An official copy of the scores of the Aptitude Test of the Graduate Record Examination, if available. The GRE scores are required for Graduate Scholarships.

___ 7. Payment of the application fee can be made out to the University of Kansas, the
University of Kansas. Beginning Spring 2004, the application fee is $55.00 for domestic paper and $45.00 for domestic online; international applications fee are $60.00 paper and $55.00 online; and non-degree applicants application fees are $30.00, irrespective of whether the application is paper or online, domestic or international.

___ 8. International students should also include proof of proficiency in English and financial status.

The graduate application for admission, the graduate application fee, the GRE scores, TOEFL scores and IELTS scores should be sent to the University of Kansas Graduate School. The Graduate School prefers to receive this application material online. However, if it is not feasible for the applicant to submit his/her application electronically, the applicant is requested to send this material to the University of Kansas Graduate School, Graduate Applications, 1450 Jayhawk Blvd, Room 300, Lawrence, KS 66045-7535. All other application materials should be sent to The University of Kansas Department of Religious Studies, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, 1300 Oread Ave., Smith Hall, Lawrence, KS 66045-7615.

All application materials must be received within one month of submission of the application. After two months the application file will be considered inactive and the application fee forfeited.
