Department of Religious Studies
.50 Graduate Teaching Assistantship Positions
    
    DUTIES
   
Up to five .50-time GTA positions are available for 2010-2011. Each position usually entails assisting with one Religious Studies principal course each semester, depending on the qualifications of the GTA and needs of the department.  The faculty makes the assignment of GTAs to specific courses.  Specific duties typically include:
   
      - Grading of examinations and papers
      - Interaction with students regarding grading and course concerns
      - Occasional (no more than three) lectures under supervision of faculty
      - Maintaining course records: roster, grades, etc.
      - Regular attendance in class
      - Leading discussion class sections, if required by the structure of the course
   
 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Fully qualified graduate student in the M.A. program in Religious Studies at the University of Kansas
    Enrolled in six hours at the University of Kansas
   
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Completion of a minimum of 12 hours of graduate courses in Religious Studies
    Teaching or Grading Experience
   
COMPENSATION
   
    Salary of approximately $12,250.00 for the academic year
    Appropriate fee adjustments
   
PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATION
   
    Applicants must submit the following to the Department Chairperson:

  1. a current academic resume
  2. a letter of interest. This letter should clearly state the applicant's academic goals and the contribution the GTA position will make toward achieving those goals. The letter should also highlight relevant experience.
  3. A GTA applying for a second year must also submit a faculty evaluation of his or her work.

   
The Department Studies Committee will review the applications and make recommendations to the full faculty who make the final decision on selection of candidates. Interviews may be conducted if deemed necessary.  A GTA appointment is for a one-year term and is usually renewable only once.
