POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: LECTURER POOL
2007-2009
The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Kansas invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit applications, which will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool to be considered for part-time, temporary teaching positions as needed. Applications will be accepted throughout the year. Academic year appointments will be made in April or May of the spring semester, or at other times when extra teachers are needed to fill vacancies or emergency situations. The successful applicant should have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
Title: Lecturer
Starting Date: Will vary as needs arise
Length of Employment: One semester or one academic year. Renewable, contingent upon review, need and funding.
Salary: Approximately $5000 - $7000 per course based on teaching experience, educational level, and size and level of the course.
Duties: Responsibilities include planning and organization of the course, instruction throughout the semester (3 and/or 5 in-class hours per week), grading, keeping of office hours, and submission of all relevant course records. Attendance is required at regular in-service meetings with the Hebrew Staff and further training as determined by the Advisor to the Jewish Studies Minor and the Jewish Studies Advisory Committee.
Required qualifications: For modern Hebrew language courses: a Bachelor’s level degree, or the equivalent, from an accredited institution of higher learning; Native speaker competence in Israeli Hebrew; Prior experience teaching Hebrew to English speakers at the undergraduate level.
Preferred qualifications: Training in second language acquisition. Training in language instruction and pedagogy. Experience in curriculum building and development.
Required qualifications: For teaching Biblical Hebrew language: M.A. Degree, or the equivalent, in Biblical and related ancient Near Eastern Languages by date of appointment; evidence of proficiency in biblical and related languages; potential or demonstrated ability in effective teaching of biblical Hebrew at the undergraduate level.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching biblical Hebrew at the university level.
Evidence or testimony regarding excellent teaching ability at the university level.
