POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: LECTURER POOL (Religious Studies)

The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Kansas invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit applications, which will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool to be considered for part-time, temporary teaching positions as needed. Applications will be accepted throughout the year. Academic year appointments will be made in April or May of the spring semester, or at other times when extra teachers are needed to fill vacancies or emergency situations. The successful applicant should have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Title: Lecturer

Starting Date: Will vary as needs arise

Length of Employment: One semester or one academic year. Renewable, contingent upon review, need and funding.

Salary: Approximately $3750 - $6000 per course based on teaching experience, educational level, and size and level of the course.

Duties: Responsibilities include planning and organization of the course, instruction throughout the semester (3 in-class hours per week for Religious Studies courses and 3 and/or 5 in-class hours per week for Hebrew courses), grading, keeping of office hours, and submission of all relevant course records. Lecturers of graduate courses may assume limited advising duties or assist with thesis as arranged with the chair.

Required Qualifications: For REL courses: MA in Religious Studies or equivalent area, College teaching experience, evidence of teaching competence (e.g., course evaluations; supervisor ratings). Lecturers of graduate courses must also possess the terminal degree.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience teaching the course of interest.
