Summary of Disaster:

 

“Heavy rainfall pounded the City of Norton for several days. On the second day of the storm, at least four inches of rain fell from the skies. Due to the previous rainfall, the ground was already saturated with water,” according to Suzanne Tate, Coalfield Progress Managing Editor. “Norton sustained nearly $100,000 in damage to public property- including road collapses, waterline breaks, and serious damage to the city shop.”

 

Reported Injuries, Deaths, and Rescue at the Site:

 

According to the emergency manager for the City of Norton, there were no reported injuries or deaths. A family of five had to be rescued in a traditional manner by boat, 18 people sought shelter, and 75-100 people were evacuated from their residences.
