Summary of Disaster:
According to the ARRL Web: ARES Activates, “Normally a relative stranger to Georgia, Ol’ Man Winter turned up unexpectedly January 23 in the form of an ice storm that affected the northern third of the state.” The storm immediately left some 340,000 homes and businesses without power and tens of thousands were still without power for a whole week. The emergency manager noted in the research interview that the storm impacted Clarke County with $275,000 in property damage. He stated, “The damage due to ice was basically infrastructure-type in nature and storm clean-up, such as limbs and debris.”
Reported Injuries, Deaths, and Rescue at the Site:
According to the emergency manager, he was not aware of any there injuries, deaths, or rescues due to the storm in Clarke County.
